Low-Carbon Slab Pre-Treatment

PowerPrep LC

Low-Carbon Slab Pre-Treatment

PowerPrep LC restores critical properties in low-carbon concrete, including those with reduced or zero cement content. By restoring the concrete matrix, PowerPrep LC enables the slab to attain its intended hardness quicker, and further enhances its strength when densified with a chemical densifier such as Ashford Formula™.

Enables low-carbon concrete to perform comparably to OPC concrete, balancing sustainability with functionality.
Peace of Mind for Stakeholders
Ensures concrete performance expectations are met while preventing costly setbacks.

Read all instructions and SDS information before use.

Use appropriate safety equipment. Always test a small area for suitability and desired results before overall application. The product is shipped ready to use and should not be diluted. Thoroughly agitate before use.

Preparation

  • Protect people, vehicles, property, plants and all surfaces not meant for treatment from product, residue, splashes and fumes. Use appropriate protective materials as needed.
  • Ensure the surface is clean and free of debris by using CreteClean Plus with Scar Guard™ to prepare the floor properly.
  • Perform a scratch test (Mohs hardness) in multiple locations to gauge the initial surface hardness of the concrete.
  • Surface Condition: Clean, dry, and free of contaminants for best results.
  • Equipment: Low-pressure sprayer or suitable application tools, brooms, squeegees, wet vacuum or auto scrubber, and appropriate safety equipment.
  • Coverage: 200 ft²/gal (4–5 m²/L).

Standard Application Procedure

  1. Apply a flood coat of PowerPrep LC at a coverage rate of 200 ft²/gal (4–5 m²/L).
  2. Allow the product to dwell on the surface for a minimum of 30 minutes. If the slab absorbs all the product, lightly mist the area with more product or water to keep it wet.
  3. Use brooms to agitate the product, ensuring even distribution across the surface. Prevent the surface from drying out throughout the process.
  4. After the dwell time, perform a quick scrub to remove excess material using squeegees, a squeegee vacuum, or an auto scrubber. If necessary, use only water (no cleaning chemicals) to prevent streaking. Avoid additional cleaning steps.
  5. Allow the floor to dry for at least 2 hours before densifying.
  6. After 2 hours, or when the surface appears dry, apply Ashford Formula™ or RetroPlate® immediately using the flood coat method at 200 ft²/gal (5 m²/L).

Maintenance

  • After densification, maintain the floor with regular cleaning using CreteClean Plus with Scar Guard.
  • Keep the surface free of dirt, debris and contaminants.
  • Inspect the floor periodically and perform additional maintenance as needed to preserve performance.

What is PowerPrep LC?

PowerPrep LC is a low-carbon slab pre-treatment that restores critical properties in low-carbon concrete, including concrete with reduced or zero cement content, enabling the slab to attain its intended hardness quicker.

What surfaces can PowerPrep LC be used on?

It is designed for use on low-carbon and Type 1L concrete slabs, including those with reduced or zero cement content.

What sizes is PowerPrep LC available in?

PowerPrep LC is available in 1-gallon jugs, 5-gallon pails, and 55-gallon drums.

What is the coverage rate of PowerPrep LC?

Coverage is approximately 200 ft²/gal (4–5 m²/L).

Does PowerPrep LC need to be diluted?

No. It is a ready-to-use product and should not be diluted.

How does PowerPrep LC help with slab hardness?

It restores the concrete matrix so low-carbon and Type 1L concrete can achieve expected hardness quicker, within standard timelines, and helps reach Mohs level 4+ surface hardness.

Is PowerPrep LC compatible with densifiers?

Yes. It works synergistically with densifiers such as Ashford Formula™ or RetroPlate® to maximize strengthening properties and optimize slab performance.

When should PowerPrep LC be applied?

Apply it as a flood coat, allow a minimum 30-minute dwell time, remove excess product, and wait at least 2 hours before applying a densifier.

Does PowerPrep LC help prevent project delays?

Yes. It helps ensure slabs are ready for subsequent operations sooner, reducing the risk of surface damage from construction traffic and avoiding setbacks caused by slower hardening.
